Autoresponder
An autoresponder automatically sends a pre-defined response in the form of an email back to the email address that emailed it.
Email Client
An application used to receive, store and send email. Outlook Express, for example.
Email Forwarding
An email account that is not checked through POP. It redirects mail to a predefined email address.
POP3 Email
Post Office Protocol - An e-mail protocol used to retrieve e-mail from a remote server over an Internet connection. Email programs use POP to download emails from the server.
SMTP
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol is a core Internet protocol used to transfer e-mail messages over the internet.
Spam
Spam refers to electronic junk mail or junk newsgroup postings. Some people define spam even more generally as any unsolicited e-mail. In addition to being a nuisance, spam also eats up a lot of network bandwidth. Because the Internet is a public network, little can be done to prevent spam, just as it is impossible to prevent junk mail. However, the use of software filters in e-mail programs can be used to remove most spam sent through e-mail.
Web Mail
Email that is accessed via the web. In addition to using Outlook Express, for example, you can access your POP Email account via the web securely as well.
